Kitty Turns 5!

While April 1st is known for ‘April Fools Day’, it is also known as Kitty Mojito’s birthday!Yes, it is a big deal and this year, since we are not in our home to celebrate it as we do every year, Kitty had a great birthday up on the 28th floor of a downtown highrise!

Turning 5 in cat years in equivalent to around 34ish in human years. So I made an extra special banner, set out some party leis, got some cat wine (yes! there is such a thing!) and make a small cake with her canned food topped with her favourite freeze dried shrimp!

Here is Kitty checking out the décor and cake

The cake was simple and super easy!

And what’s a party without some wine! These lovely bottles are a creation by Pet Winery.

After a rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ and hugs and kisses all around, Kitty dug into the yummy goodies.

And finally, the birthday girl decided to pose… Here she is wearing a lovely bandanna that was gifted to her by her best friends in Utah, Bonnie and Clyde. She also decided to try on the party leis!

The festivities didn’t end here. Her Instagram buddies flooded her with birthday wishes and we had a weekend long party on Instagram with her good buddies Timmy and Jimmy who threw a fabulous party. Check out the hashtag #timmyandjimmyandkittymojitoaprilfoolsbirthdaypawty

What did you wish for on your birthday, Kitty?
I wished to be a full time meowdel, Mama

That’s a great wish, Kitty! I will see what I can do to make that wish come true for you
Thanks Mama, do you really think I can be as famous as Nala and Grumpy cat?

Of course, Kitty. You are the sweetest kitty ever and everyone loves you already
Yes, I am very loveable aren’t I? Now can I get some extra shrimpies with dinner 😉 ?

Change Is Good…… Maybe?

As you know, we had some water damage to our condo earlier this year… While the restoration was done, the renovations were yet to begin…

Well as of last week, it finally got started…. What does this mean? It means that we will have a renovated place to go back to but in the meantime we have to leave home in order for them to get to work.

So last Friday, we packed up the car with some necessities and moved into a temporary apartment for a month or so. That sounds good right? Yes, it does… but what you don’t know yet is that this apartment is on the 28th floor! For someone who is terrified of heights, it’s not exactly ideal! But it is a beautiful place and the views are amazing….

Kitty on the other hand took to the new place with ease. Although she is not too fond of change and new places, she relaxes as long as we are around. Her safety net is us.

So she spent the first day exploring, climbing up on to cupboards, sniffing in every nook and cranny…. We got her a small collapsible cat condo and set it up on a side table by the floor to ceiling windows and she spends lots of time looking out and napping.

I suppose the purpose of this post is to remind myself that change is good. Sometimes the circumstance from which this change manifests may not be ideal, but every experience that we go though teaches us something, no matter how small a lesson it may be. For me, this taught me that I can live on less. I have the basics with me right now and I don’t miss anything else we left at home. It has given me a resolve to live more simply and not put much value on to material things.

It’s A New Dawn, It’s a New Day!

Today marks my 35th birthday!

I must admit, as excited and grateful as I am to celebrate another birthday, I am also having a sort of ‘midlife crisis’ moment!

Lately I have been questioning my lifestyle and career choices. In the past year, I have had some health issues which, although not too major, require that I monitor my food and activity levels. On the other hand, I have a job (for which I am grateful for) that seems to stress me out a bit too much for my liking. Stressing out about change and steps I would like to take toward change is something I have been struggling with. I guess, as you grow older, you are more aware of what you would like your life to be like and you don’t want to waste any time doing things that don’t bring you any joy.

I have been reading many ‘self help’ books, trying to work out all these foreign feelings that I am having and I must say the more I read, the more clearer it is becoming to me that I am craving a life that is more quality than quantity. I no longer have the dream of owning a big house with a big yard or a career that requires extra long work days. What I am craving for is a quieter life, somewhere by the water, to be a bit more in tune with nature, the ability to write more and work on my Etsy store and spend more time with my husband and Kitty.

I suppose my version of success has now changed. In a way, it’s a sign that I am growing up and moving forward. After all, what the point of wanting the same things your entire life and shutting yourself to all the new experiences that life brings your way?

What Is This ‘Hotel’ Place?

-Written by Kitty Mojito-

If you follow this blog, you know what happened to me last week!

By me, I mean to Mama and Daddy…. Did you hear about all that water?

Waouw! When the water started to drip from the ceiling, I tried to help Mama but she shooed me away. Later, so many strange people kept coming in….. Mama started to move things out of the places that the water was coming from….I was getting scared because there were things and people everywhere….!!!

Later, Mama told me that we have to go… to some place called ‘hotel. She said that we have to stay there for a while… Hmm, I didn’t like the sound of it… leave all my toys and my cat tower behind? No way!

Eventually, I did end up going with them… There was an incident in the car on my way there. I don’t want to talk about it. I am sure Mama must have told you by now. She can’t keep a secret!

So this ‘ hotel’ place…… At first, it was weird! I took some time to explore!

I found this really cool box that was warm and had flames! Mama said it’s called ‘fireplace. I checked it out…. I really liked laying in front of it. It was toasty and warm.

As the days went by, I became a bit more brave. I sat by the window, watching people and cars go by. Daddy also look me out to the patio and I rolled around in the dirt! Ooh that felt good!

Mama had brought some of my toys so I spent many evenings playing with them and also cuddling on the couch with Mama and Daddy while watching TV. And of course, I cuddled with them on the big, giant bed and we all slept happily every after.

The End.

Water, Water, Water, Oh My!

What an eventful couple of weeks this has been!!

It all started a week ago when a dishwasher pipe burst up on one of the upper floors in our building resulting in water coming into our unit! Kitty and I spent most of that day mopping up water from various parts of the condo while the condo board, restoration crews and insurance people tried to get things under control….

All this resulted in us having to leave the condo for about a week until the restoration team ripped out all the affected walls and ceilings. We were lucky enough to have good home insurance so they put us up in a nice hotel for the time being.

What an adventure this was for Miss. Kitty! As you may or may not know, Kitty is not a huge fan of car rides and despises being put in her carrier. She tolerates it but tries her best to get out of it if she can. The day we had to leave home, she was already pretty stressed, with work crew mulling about and the place looking like a disaster. When it came time to leave, she put up a great fight as we got her into her carrier. About ten minutes into our ride to the hotel, the unmistakable stink of poo filled the car…. Poor Kitty, who was so stressed, has soiled herself in her carrier. She has never done this before…

Of course, we didn’t want her to be uncomfortable the whole way to the hotel so we doubled back home, cleaned out her carrier and gave her a quick wipe down to clean it all up. It turned out that, not only did she do #2, she had also thrown up! Poor baby!

So we tried this again! The second time around she was a bit more settled and I held her on my lap the whole way through. When she got to the hotel, she was a bit confused but soon started exploring!

She doesn’t want me to tell you about her hotel adventures just yet so watch for the next blog post to find out more!

2017 – A New Year Of Possibility

The best thing about the dawn of a brand new year is that it fills you with a new sense of possibility, that feeling of ‘This is the going to be the best year ever’.

It’s the time of year where I usually make my daily schedule to get my fitness regime up and running and write down all the goals that I would like to achieve. It is also the time that I reflect on the year gone by and be proud of everything that I achieved. It helps that I have a digital journal because I can always go back to it if I need a reminder.

Regardless of whether I meet all these expectations that I set or if I fall short of achieving a few, the journey of planning to achieve my dreams always brings on a big smile.

2017

In the coming days and weeks, I will be sharing my plans for the CrazyCatLadyCorner etsy store. I have some exciting ideas and look forward to sharing them with all of you!

Kitty also has some resolutions that she would like to share with her readers so watch this space for that:)

So to kick start this amazing year, I want to say  thank you to everyone who takes time to read these posts and to everyone who has supported my business 🙂 I look forward to sharing all the amazing things that this year brings with you all!

The Best Christmas Ever!

-Written by Kitty Mojito-

This Christmas has been one of the most memorable ones ever! I, Kitty Mojito made a ton of new friends over on Instagram and we had a blast taking part in a card exchange and two secret santa gift exchanges!

FYI the card exchange was my brainchild and it grew so fast that many IG accounts from all over the world decided to take part in it…..

First, let me share with you the two secret santa gifts…

The first one was sent to me by my friends Fred and Thunder (IG:@punkrawkgyrl). There were many toys for me and also a bag of treats for Mama. So lovely!

The second secret santa gift was sent to me by my new friend Chloe (IG: chloe.and.cleo.cats) … It was a great gift pack! It had toys, treats and also a great bag for Mama that had my photo and name on it!

And then we come to my other gifts…! Wow! I was so blessed … there were so many things under the tree for me… I think Santy Claws thought that I was a very good girl this year….. I also got an extra special gift from my Grandmeow in Sri Lanka… She made this lovely quilt with my name on it! I love it and I sleep on it everyday!

I also got over 50 cards from all my friends all over the world!! Aren’t they just lovely?

Mama says that I am the luckiest kitty out there to be so loved…. I think I agree with her.

Speaking of Mama, she did make me wear some strange clothes for Christmas. Do you want to see what I thought of it? I was ok with the green sweater but I really didn’t like the hooded sweater…. I kept it on long enough to take this photo!

And here I am finally getting to open my presents on Christmas morning!!

Mama tells me that there are a few more gifts coming in the mail. I will share about it when it gets here.

This concludes a very Merry Kitty Mojito Christmas 2016.

I wish you and your furbabies a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy and Purrfect New Year 2017!

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas!

As much as I love this time of year, it is also one of the busiest times!

And no matter how organized I try to be, there is always that last minute rush of trying to add on to gifts etc.

This year, I made my Christmas list months ahead, allotted a budget to each person and sent out all my holiday cards in November. I purchased most of the items on the list on Black Friday and they are all wrapped and ready to go as of today!

The  only person on the list that I am still sort of working on is Kitty!

Let me backtrack a bit and tell you about how things work in our household during the Christmas season.

Our gift list is usually pretty small. It mostly includes immediate family and a few friends. So this makes things a bit easier.

As for my husband and I, we usually don’t buy each other any large gifts. We decide on a budget as to what we each will spend on the other person and do small stocking stuffers, gift cards or use that money towards a new experience. I, for one, LOVE gift cards! It is the ideal gift you can get me! I prefer to shop in my own time so this works out perfect!

So in a nutshell, thanks to my slight OCD, I am Christmas ready by the beginning on December.  And of course, Kitty loves all the lights and bling that gets put out so she spends most of her time cuddled up under her little tree! Yes, you heard me… HER tree! We gave up trying to have a full sized tree 2 years ago as it didn’t survive her pawing and climbing! So now we decorate a tiny 3 foot tree especially for her:)

Here is Kitty enjoying some of the snow and then followed by a snuggle session under her favourite blanket to stay warm!

We sent out over 60 cards this year to Kitty’s Instagram friends! We have now started to receive many cards as well! The adorable bowtie you see her wearing is from a Canadian company called Fancy Paws 🙂

Holiday Fundraisers

It’s been about a month since I opened the Etsy store and I am so glad to see it doing well.

The cat community of Instagram have really embraced all the products I have on there! The bandannas have been a big hit and the book and art work have been doing well too!! So amidst all this, I decided to continue my tradition of doing a holiday fundraiser!

If you remember, last year I did gift packs for several local rescues. This year my fundraising focused on two special kitties… One named Ollie and the other named Buddy.

I came to know about these two kitties through Instagram. Let me share about them!

Ollie is a little kitty who needed help to pay for a liver operation to fix a congenital defect. He has a GoFundme page set up so I decided to do a small fundraiser to contribute to that. I ended up raising about $25 towards this.

Buddy is a sweetheart who got hit by a car and ended up with a broken jaw and other severe injuries. His mama wanted to desperately save his life! This required lots of surgery and continuous vet visits! Of course, this means they need as much help with funding as possible so last weekend I held a 2 day fundraiser for Buddy. All sales made through the Etsy store was going to be donated to Buddy and I must say it was a great success! I ended up making about $120!

It made me and Kitty so happy to be able to do something good to help these two lovable cats and hopefully they both make a full recovery!
